Introduction to Photography
I am currently taking an introductory course in photography. The course is designed to have students learn how to operate a manual digital SLR camera and strengthen their conceptual approach to making images through techniques related to depth of field, framing, lighting, portraiture, environmental photography, abstraction, photojournalism and sequencing. Below are photoshoots I have completed.
For the above assignment, I was asked to photograph 5-10 compelling street photographs describing the block on which I live with at least 3 photos including people (from a safe distance).
For the above assignment, I was asked to photograph 10+ images of my neighborhood including portraits, landscapes and street scenes.
The above is my midterm project for the course. I initially aimed to take environmental portraits of the Hispanic community that makes up Upper Manhattan. As I was shooting and compiling these pictures, I realized that there is a much deeper meaning. Each picture represents a piece of my surrounding community.
For the above assignment, I was asked to photograph 10 powerful and distinct portraits of myself. The theme for my photos was a focus on natural beauty and personal perception of oneself.
For the above assignment, I was asked to convey a clear feeling or story about an aspect of home I feel connected to. The images reflect my childhood and upbringing in Washington Heights. I chose to edit the images in black and white because this time period in my life was very black and white in comparison to my life today and I wanted to evoke a nostalgic feel.

Digital Storytelling
For my Digital Storytelling class, I created a photojournalism essay entitled Healthcare Heroes: New Challenges Faced Due to COVID-19 depicting a day in the life of a healthcare worker, specifically at ColumbiaDoctors Midtown, navigating our new normal with screening protocols from temperature checks to COVID-19 tests.
